Minor in Microbiology and Immunology

Minor Overview

The minor in microbiology and immunology provides a strong supplement for students who are majoring in the natural sciences, as well as a window into the theories, research methods and applications of the burgeoning biomedical field. You’ll study the pathogens that cause many of today’s most prominent infectious diseases, as well as how disease systems develop, evolve and spread. You’ll also learn the fascinating ways different microorganisms can be both a boon and a hindrance to the immune system and a body’s overall health.

A dual laboratory and classroom focus strengthens your analytical skills, and teaches you how to harness the same methods and lab technology used by scientists and researchers in today’s leading biotech firms and pharmaceutical companies. With departmental approval, you have the option to pursue graduate-level electives that support your academic goals and interests in special topics such as epidemiology, outbreak control and antimicrobial therapy.
