Digital media has revolutionized the way entire industries interact with people in the modern world. We’ll give you the contemporary skills you need to excel in a diverse range of fields including public relations, marketing, entertainment and journalism.

Program Overview

There is a growing demand for skilled professionals who can design, produce and manage media content effectively. This five-year Dual-Degree program gives you the flexibility to pursue any undergraduate major you choose and get a head start on your master’s by taking some graduate level courses in interactive media your senior year. You’ll build a solid foundation in web production, social media, digital video and other forms of multimedia storytelling.

You can select one of three distinct concentrations depending on your specific interests and professional goals, including media design, social media and user experience design — or customize your own based on your career goals. You’ll also learn to critically analyze all aspects of media and develop problem-solving skills that are essential in such a rapidly evolving field.

The program can culminate with either an additional graduate course in communications, an internship or an advanced independent project that you design. And our vast network of alumni is a valuable resource for mentoring and job leads. Quinnipiac was rated a top 10 school for media professionals by LinkedIn, due in large part to the success our alumni have in the industry. Our graduates are working at CNN, ESPN and every major broadcast network. 

Alumni Spotlight

A natural storyteller

Alumna Janelle Gonzalez ’09, MS ‘10 knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue media production in college, and it was clear to her after just one campus visit which one she would attend.

“When I got to see the main communications facility at Quinnipiac, I was sold,” she said.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Gonzalez quickly entered the Master’s program in interactive communications. An internship with a New York City-based production company she got as a graduate student led to her first job offer—before she’d even completed her program.

“Grad school is where everything really came together for me,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez would go on to experience her proudest moment at NBC Sports, when she won two Emmy Awards for her work on the 2014 Winter Olympics. Now employed at CNN Digital, she writes, produces and edits the features and documentaries that appear on CNN's digital platforms and television programs each day.

“I do what I love on a daily basis,” Gonzalez said, “and I’m incredibly proud of the work that I’ve done.”              

Facilities

Nicole Kessler, a Quinnipiac University communications major works on various aspects of the Q30 television program TMA including operating the camera. The general interest talk show is filmed live in the Piazza area of the Carl Hansen Student Center. Curriculum and Requirements

If accepted, you can take up to 6 credits of graduate courses beginning in the fall semester of your senior year with the permission of the graduate public relations director. Those credits can be applied to both undergraduate and graduate programs. You will then complete the remaining requirements for the master's degree in the following year.
