Program Overview

Business leaders and big picture thinkers

Management professionals must successfully navigate the numerous challenges businesses face in a modern economy. We’ll teach you the strategies and critical thinking skills necessary to assess an organization’s unique operational needs. And you’ll learn how to be an effective and efficient leader in one of two specialized tracks: human resource management (HRM) and operations and supply chain management (OSCM).

You’ll learn to assess an organization’s unique operational needs and how to apply a variety of management strategies to ensure greater efficiency. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential, and you’ll hone those skills during group work and with cultural awareness and behavioral courses that train you to lead a diverse team of employees.

Through an array of internship opportunities, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in a professional setting. And our job fairs and alumni networking events will introduce you to representatives from throughout the business world including prominent management consulting firms like Deloitte, Bain and KPMG. Additionally, you'll leave with a meaningful portfolio of applied projects, giving you an advantage as you embark on your career.

Global opportunities

Quinnipiac student Dori Horne traveled to India while completing her undergraduate degree in management.

Human Resource Management

Managing the greatest company resource

The Human Resource Management track teaches students to be agents of change in the workplace by implementing modern workforce strategies. They also learn how to ensure the sustained positivity and productivity of an organization’s most valuable component: its people.

Competent, culturally sensitive and highly organized, human resource specialists add significant value to any organization and display competence in an array of specialized areas, including: employee and labor relations; compensation and benefits; training and development; and diversity and inclusion management.

Raising the bar on professional development

The School of Business supports a student-run campus chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR professional society. Each year, SHRM@QU offers seminars, workshops and Q&A sessions hosted by guest speakers from nationally recognized businesses and organizations. Members also have the chance to organize special events that address the many current social and societal changes affecting human resources practices in the workplace.

In addition to yearly skill-building and networking events, SHRM@QU members have access to a deep network of resources that help them secure internships and other professional opportunities, necessary for kicking off successful careers in human resource management. 

SHRM@QU recently earned the Superior Merit Award from the SHRM for the third time.

Operations and Supply Chain Management

Ensuring smoothness and efficiency

In the Operations and Supply Chain Management track, students learn to identify, analyze and fix any tactical and operational issues that companies and organizations of all kinds may be facing, thereby maximizing savings and overall profitability.

By examining complex information and interpreting raw data, analysts mitigate waste in every segment of their employer’s supply chain. Their expertise preserves an efficient daily transition of goods and services from point of origin all the way to point of consumption. They enjoy careers as inventory and supply managers; sales and operations planners; and logistics and fulfillment officers, among many others.

The power of a professional network

We work closely with the New Haven Chapter of APICS, the premier professional association for supply chain management. APICS is the nation’s leading provider of research, education and certification programs that elevate supply chain excellence and innovation.

In addition to connecting with a global network of 45,000 supply chain professionals, students who join APICS have access to a lengthy list of professional resources and other opportunities to expand their knowledge of the field, accelerate their development and kick start their careers. These include:

Study Abroad

Gaining a broader perspective

School of Business students spent Spring Break 2017 exploring the natural wonders of Peru while also meeting with business leaders.

Learning about global business trends cannot be confined to a single classroom – time zone. Thanks to study abroad and immersion trip opportunities, students may experience management practices utilized by businesses both large and small all over the world, and make international perspective and cultural immersion a central part of their education.

Taking the national stage

Locally, regionally and globally, our students put their skills and knowledge to work. They organize and execute the yearly student-run Global Asset Management Education (G.A.M.E.) Forum; bring valid business ideas to life in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE); and regularly take part in numerous campus-based and national competitions.

Annual Events

Learning across the disciplines

We regularly host Meeting of the Minds, an interdisciplinary roundtable event that examines important business and societal topics. This invitation-only event brings the brightest young minds from all business programs together with students from engineering, biomedical sciences, occupational therapy and others to analyze and discuss a range of relevant topics.

At the Meeting of the Minds, you’ll learn firsthand how your discipline overlaps with others, and how to leverage combined perspectives to approach and offer solutions to significant and complex issues. Past events have covered such topics as environmentally sustainable management practices, the convergence of business and public health practices and the relationships between technological advances and public safety.
